PROBLEMS FACED BY PEOPLE.
It is observed in salt lake that market place is not in everybody’s reach.
Maximum residential buildings are 3/4 storied.
People have to get down every time to take vegetables and other daily need material.
They have to walk a good distance to get vegetables and fruits from markets and streets.
As a resident of salt lake I also faced this type of problem.
As the vegetable and fruit shops are very few so shopkeepers and vendors are at monopoly.
They are fixing prices as per their will.
There is no any price control in salt lake for fruits and vegetables.
Same vegetable and fruit have different prices in different shops, in different markets or in different areas.
A part from all this vegetables and fruits are not fresh.
All the vegetables are more than two days old.
Some durable vegetables are about one week old like brinjals, parwal, banana etc.
some vendors carry vegetables in rickshaw van.
But those vegetables are in direct contact of sunlight.
So, again we can’t get fresh vegetables from those vendors also.
Vendors are following FIFO (first in first out) method of stock.
It means vegetables and fruits are displayed according to their arrival, so older vegetables are first sold.
Vegetable shops and rickshaw vendors maintain stock for one day and first day’s leftover vegetables and fruits are sold next day by mixing with newly arrived stock.
This process continues till all old stock sold.
People of salt lake totally placed in isolation from fresh vegetables and fruits.
HOW WE MAINTAIN FRESHNESS.
We are not keeping any stock for vegetables and fruits.
We take order whole day till 9 pm.
We have tie up with farmers and their direct vendors.
They came from different parts of neighboring districts by train at sealdah in night.
We place them exact quantity order according to our received order.
They deliver the vegetables at sealdah around 2-3 am.
Those vegetables are only brought from farm in evening and reaching at sealdah at mid night.
So vegetables don’t come in contact of sunlight .
Because, all process starts after sunset.
We pack the vegetables as per order till 5 am.
Our delivery boy starts delivery of vegetables 6 am onwards to home.
So vegetables are only 10-12 hours old till it reaches home.
For fruits we buy them from fruit market in burrabazar where loaded trucks arrive at night and we take fruits from trucks and delivered directly to home.
